Move Foward Party plans to rally at headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand, from 13:00 Aug. 7. Increased security likely; disruptions possible.
Opposition Move Forward Party plans to hold a gathering at its headquarters at Future Forward Building from 13:00 Aug. 7 ahead of a Constitutional Court verdict on the dissolution of the party. Hundreds of supporters could participate in the event.
Authorities will likely deploy additional security personnel to monitor the gathering. Localized transport and business disruptions are possible around the event site, especially if activists occupy nearby roads. Although violence is unlikely, isolated scuffles are possible. Police are also maintaining increased security measures at the Constitutional Court as a precaution against possible rallies as of the morning of Aug. 7.
Avoid the event site and the Constitutional Court as a standard precaution. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
The Constitutional Court of Thailand is set to rule on whether Move Forward Party violated Article 92 of the Political Party Act. The court is hearing a cased filed by the Election Commission (EC) against Move Forward Party claiming that the opposition party's campaign to amend the country's lese-majeste law (Section 112) could be seen as an attempt to undermine the constitutional monarchy. If found guilty of the violation, the party will be dissolved and its leaders will be banned from participating in politics for 10 years.
