Opposition activists associated with the People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) plan to protest in Diyarbakir, Izmir, and Van Sept. 1. The purpose of the demonstrations is to demand peace and strengthened democratization in Turkiye, particularly regarding state relations with ethnic Kurdish populations. The demonstrations are meant to coincide with World Peace Day. Large crowds are likely to attend planned gatherings. Planned protests include:

  • Diyarbakir: Protest march from AZC Plaza to Sehid Seyh Said Meydani from 17:30. Organizers did not immediately disclose the planned march route.

  • Izmir: Protest at Cumhuriyet Meydani from 18:00.

  • Van: Protest at Musa Anter Baris Parki from 17:00.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near all protest sites. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or opposed individuals cannot be ruled out.
