Turkiye: Animal rights activists to protest in Istanbul, Sept. 1
Animal rights protest planned in Istanbul, Turkiye, 17:00 Sept. 1. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.
Animal rights activists plan to protest in Istanbul's Yenikapi Square from 17:00 Sept. 1 to denounce a bill that proposes the euthanasia of stray animals in the city. The number of people who may participate in the demonstrations was not immediately apparent; however, previous related rallies have gathered large crowds.
Authorities will almost certainly deploy additional police to monitor the protest. Security measures and large crowds will likely prompt localized transport disruptions near the protest site. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the demonstration area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near Yenikai Square on the afternoon of Sept. 1. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
