Benin: Possible security operations and further arrests following the detention of alleged coup plotters Sept. 23-24
Security operations and further arrests are possible in the coming days after officials in Benin annouced they foiled a coup, Sept. 23-24.
Security operations and further arrests are possible across Benin, notably in Cotonou, following the detention of alleged coup plotters overnight Sept. 23-24. On Sept. 25, a prosecutor announced that three individuals, a former minister Oswald Homeky, a businessman Olivier Boko, and commander of the presidential guard Djimon Dieudonne Tevoedjre, had been arrested. They have been accused of preparing to stage a coup.
The investigation may lead to further arrests in the coming days. Localized transport disruptions are possible during security operations.
Plan for possible security operations and related localized disruptions, notably in Cotonou. Remain courteous and cooperative if approached and questioned by security personnel. Maintain contact with diplomatic representations.
