Informational

Opposition politicians, labor unions, and activists plan to demonstrate in Paris Sept. 21. The groups will denounce the appointment of Michel Barnier as France's prime minister, and demand a range of new government policies. As of Sept. 18, organizers have yet to confirm the time and location of the demonstration. Up to tens of thousands of people could participate in the action, based a previous demonstration Sept. 7. Other similar events are possible nationwide. Organizers plan to hold a further strike and protest Oct. 1.

Authorities will likely deploy heightened security near the demonstration venue and march route. Road closures will likely prompt localized transport disruptions. Violence is unlikely.

Monitor trusted local media for protest updates, as organizers may not announce them in advance. Avoid affected areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near protest sites. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
