France: Activists to protest in multiple cities nationwide during the afternoon of Nov. 16
Activist groups to demonstrate in several cities across France on Nov. 16; increased security, localized disruptions likely.
Several activists groups plan to stage protests in at least 14 cities across France starting at 14:00 Nov. 16. The purpose of the actions is to denounce violence against children and adolescents, as well as to demand improvements to laws related to the issue. Participation will probably vary significantly by location; however, the following will likely be among the largest of the gatherings:
Bordeaux: Rally at Pey Berland Square;
Lille: Demonstration at Sevastopol Square;
Lyon: Demonstration at Terreaux Square;
Marseille: Rally at General de Gaulle Square;
Toulouse: Rally at General de Gaulle Square.
Related demonstrations will take place in prominent public squares in Avignon, Bellac, Gueret, Metz, Niort, Reims, and Rouen. As of Nov. 14, organizers have only announced that an informational kiosk will be set up at Place de la Nation in Paris; however, plans for the event in Paris could change with little to no notice.
Authorities will likely deploy increased security to monitor the gatherings. Associated road travel and transport disruptions are likely through the afternoon of Nov. 16 near the gathering sites. Violence is unlikely.
Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Monitor local media for updates. Immediately leave the area at the first signs of confrontation. Heed instructions from law enforcement officers.
