Germany: Activists to protest in several cities in Ruhr area Sept. 18-20
Activists to protest in central Dortmund, Essen, and Duisburg Sept. 18-20. Periodic heightened security, transport disruptions likely.
Activists plan to conduct several protests as they march westward across the Ruhr area Sept. 18-20. The purpose of the demonstrations is to demand the release of imprisoned Turkish politician Abdullah Ocalan and improved treatment of Turkiye's Kurdish population. Some participants are marching from Hamm to Duisburg and will lead demonstrations in cities along the way. It was not immediately clear how many participants may attend. Organizers are calling for supporters to join the march at the following locations and times:
Dortmund: Central Station from 09:00 Sept. 18.
Duisburg: Marxloh Pollman from 09:00 Sept. 20.
Essen: Central Station from 09:00 Sept. 19.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near assembly sites, as participants will march through the surrounding areas. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or ideologically opposed individuals cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the protest areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near any demonstration areas. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
