Germany: Authorities to dispose of unexploded WWII ordnance in Bielefeld, Sept. 12

Authorities to conduct WWII bomb disposal operation in Sattelmeyerweg, Bielefeld, Germany, Sept. 12. Evacuations, disruptions ongoing.

Warning

Authorities plan to dispose of an unexploded WWII bomb at Sattelmeyerweg Street, Bielefeld, from 16:00 Sept. 12. Authorities report that the device was discovered near the railway lines during ongoing construction work, and have established a 500-meter (540-yard) cordon. Evacuations are ongoing. The operation has prompted railway disruptions to IC and ICE trains on the Berlin-Hanover, and Hamm-Dortmund-Hagen-Cologne lines. The Bielefeld, Herford, and Gutersloh railway stations have been reportedly closed and will not be serviced until the end of disposal operations. It is not known when the operation will end.

Heightened security, railway travel disruptions, and road closures will likely continue through Sept. 12. Lingering disruptions are likely following the end of the disposal operation.

Avoid the operation area. Allow additional time if traveling near the evacuation zone. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
