Honduras: Activists protesting in Tegucigalpa Sept. 25
Activists protesting at Casa Presidencial in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Sept. 25. Transport disruptions reported. Increased security likely.
Activists affiliated with the Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (Consejo Civico de Organizaciones Populares e Indigenas de Honduras, COPINH) are protesting outside the Presidential Palace (Casa Presidencial) in Tegucigalpa on Sept. 25 to demand better security for environmental and indigenous activists. The protest is causing traffic disruptions along Boulevard Juan Pablo II.
Authorities will likely deploy a heightened security presence to monitor the demonstration. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely in the affected area. Skirmishes between demonstrators and security forces cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the protest as a precaution. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent the demonstration. If clashes erupt, immediately depart the vicinity of the unrest and seek shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Adhere to all instructions issued by local officials.
