India: Political activists plan to march from Ghaziabad to New Delhi Sept. 26
Political activists plan to march from Ghazipur border in Ghaziabad to Rahul Gandhi's residence in New Delhi, India, Sept. 26.
The Other Backward Class (OBC) group affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) plan to march from the Ghazipur border in Ghaziabad to Rahul Gandhi's residence in New Delhi on Sept. 26 to denounce Gandhi's alleged negative remarks against the OBC. Although the exact time and route of the march remain unclear, demonstrators will likely march along National Expressway 3 and National Highway 44, before walking down India Gate to Sunehri Bagh Road. Participation will likely be in the low thousands.
Additional demonstrations can occur on Sept. 26 in New Delhi. Potential rally sites are near government buildings, public venues, sports centers, and thoroughfares. Authorities will likely monitor any such gathering that emerges and may use force to disperse crowds. Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely along the march route and near protest sites. Clashes between police and activists, as well as from opposing parties, cannot be ruled out. Associated business disruptions are possible
Avoid the protest as a precaution. Allow additional travel time near the affected areas. If clashes occur, leave the area immediately. Heed instructions from authorities.
