Israel: Authorities introduce restrictions in Haifa and Northern District amid escalating tensions with Lebanese Hizballah as of Sept. 21
Israeli authorities impose public restrictions amid heightened tensions as of late Sept. 21. Abide by all official instructions.
The Home Front Command in Israel has introduced restrictions for residents of Haifa and Israel's Northern District as of late Sept. 21. The measures, which entered into force at 20:30, come amid escalating tensions with the Lebanese Hizballah (LH). The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson has stated that all educational studies and activities will occur near shelters from Haifa northwards. Authorities have also imposed restrictions on public gatherings. Gatherings in open areas and spaces are limited to only 30 people, while up to 300 people are allowed in outdoor spaces. The Sea of Galilee's beaches have been closed to the public until further notice. Beaches in Haifa, Nahariya, and Tiberias have also been closed.
Heightened security, as well as transport and business disruptions, are likely over the coming hours and days. Should the situation with the LH further deteriorate, Israeli authorities could introduce further restrictions.
Consider avoiding nonessential travel to Israel, particularly the shared border region, until the situation stabilizes. Maintain contact with diplomatic representations. Monitor local media and abide by security forces' directives. If incoming mortar rounds or rockets are reported or warning sirens sound in the general vicinity, report to the nearest bomb shelter and await further instructions from authorities. If there is no shelter nearby, stay indoors and away from windows and exterior walls. If possible, move to a ground floor or basement. Reconfirm the status of transport services before departure. Review and update contingency plans.
