Multiple activist groups are demonstrating in Mexico City, Mexico, Sept. 18; heightened security and localized disruptions likely.
Multiple activist groups are demonstrating in Mexico City on Sept. 18. Approximately 500 supporters of the governing Morena party staged a march from 08:00 to support the outgoing president from the Postal Palace to the Zocalo. Around 500 participants from the National Center of Democratic Students (Central Nacional de Estudiantes Democraticos, CNED ) will march from 11:00 from the Faculty of Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Mexico toward the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts to show support for activists protesting about a 2014 mass kidnapping in Iguala.
Although the gatherings should remain largely peaceful, authorities will likely deploy an increased police presence near the demonstrations as a precaution. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely along the march routes.
As a precaution, avoid the demonstrations. If operating near impacted areas, allow additional time to reach destinations. Seek alternative routes to circumvent any related transport disruptions. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
