Poland: Activists to stage protest march in Warsaw Sept. 21
Activists to gather for protest march in Warsaw, Poland, from 12:00 Sept. 21; heightened security, localized transport disruptions likely.
Activists affiliated with the Citizens' Movement for Nuclear Energy (Obywatelski Ruch Na Rzecz Energetyki Jadrowej, OREJ) plan to stage a protest march in Warsaw on Sept. 21. The purpose of the demonstration is to demand increased investment in nuclear power plants. Protest participants plan to gather at the Nicolaus Copernicus Monument from 12:00 and then march toward the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. The number of people who would participate in the demonstration and the intended march route were not immediately clear.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions will likely affect the vicinity of the march. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or ideologically opposed individuals cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the protest march as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling in the affected area. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
