Unionized teachers plan to strike across Serbia Sept. 16. Business disruptions, localized heightened security likely.

Informational

Unionized teachers plan to strike nationwide in Serbia Sept. 16. The purpose of the labor action is to denounce proposed changes to criminal law related to strikes and to demand increased salaries. Participants will stage protests at school administration buildings across the country at 12:00, with such gatherings being most likely in Belgrade, Kragujevac, Nis, and Novi Sad, among other cities.

Heightened security, as well as localized transport and business disruptions are likely near any protests that take place.

Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Plan accordingly for increased absenteeism on the day of the strike among employees or are the parents or guardians of school-aged children; consider allowing a liberal telecommuting policy, if possible.
