Informational

Animal rights activists plan to protest in Ankara, Antalya, Istanbul, and Izmir on Sept. 29. The purpose of the demonstrations is to denounce legislation permitting the culling of stray animals. It was not immediately clear how many participants may attend; however, previous demonstrations have drawn large crowds likely numbering over one thousand participants. Demonstrations are scheduled for the following locations:

  • Ankara: Protest march from Ataturk Cultural Center (AKM) to Tandogan Square from 15:00.

  • Antalya: Protest at Attalos Square from 18:00.

  • Istanbul: Protest at Maltepe Orhangazi City Park (Maltepe Rally Area) from 17:00.

  • Izmir: Protest march from Cumhuriyet Square to Gundogdu Square from 16:00.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near all demonstration areas. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid protest areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near any demonstration sites. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
