Emergency crews responding to missile strikes in Lviv, Ukraine, early Sept. 4. Tight security, disruptions likely.

Critical

Emergency crews are responding to Russian missile strikes in Lviv, near the border with Poland, early Sept. 4. Initial reports state that the projectiles landed near the main train station in the city center, causing a large fire. Nearby residential buildings and at least two schools sustained damage. Broken windows were also reported around Konovaltsia, Brativ Mikhnovskyi, and Melnyk streets. Officials state that at least 17 people were injured; the casualty toll may increase over the coming hours. Sources indicate that several streets in the city will be blocked, including across the Sknylivskyi Bridge and Konovaltsia Street.

Authorities will likely maintain heightened security measures near affected areas over the coming hours. Localized ground transport and business disruptions are probable. Utility outages are possible in the aftermath of the missile strikes. Further attacks are likely.

Avoid any areas affected by the missile strikes until authorities give the all-clear. Shelter in place if there are strikes in your area. Stay away from windows and exterior walls if officials report incoming projectile fire. Follow the instructions of local security personnel, especially when instructed to seek refuge in air-raid shelters. Maintain contact with diplomatic representations. Do not approach suspected unexploded ordnance.
