Low visibility causing flight disruptions at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, Nev., US, Sept. 11; lingering delays likely.
Lingering flight disruptions are likely at Harry Reid International (LAS) and other airports in the greater Las Vegas, Nevada, area due to smoke from wildfires impacting visibility as of Sept. 11. Hundreds of flights have been delayed and several others have been canceled at LAS. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a ground delay program at LAS, which is slated to remain in effect until at least 23:59; the FAA may modify or rescind the ground delay program on short notice. Flight departures to LAS were reportedly delayed by an average of 146 minutes as of around 14:30.
The FAA may issue additional weather-related ground delay programs and/or ground stops for airports in the Las Vegas area over the coming hours. Residual disruptions are possible even after visibility improves as airlines work to clear passenger backlogs.
Confirm flights if scheduled to travel via LAS or another airport in the Las Vegas area. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
