Dominican Republic: Protesters plan to gather in Santiago Oct. 16

Activists plan to stage a demonstration in Santiago from 18:00 Oct. 16. Participants will gather around the Monument of Santiago, also known as the Monument of the Heroes of the Restoration, to oppose the government's policies.

Authorities will likely deploy an increased security presence near the demonstration as a precaution. Localized traffic disruptions are likely. Although the demonstration should remain largely peaceful, skirmishes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.
