Demonstrations around the National Congress in Santo Domingo are likely to continue Oct. 17, to oppose a tax reform bill. Activists of the so-called "Patriotic Camp" have gathered in nearby areas since Oct. 11, and plan to hold a larger protest on Oct. 17. Other groups may hold similar protests in the area. A large display of security is ongoing around Congress.

Disruptions to roads and nearby businesses are possible. Additional large demonstrations may occur Oct. 17-18. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.
