Honduras: Planned electricity outages to affect several areas through at least Oct. 19

The electrical utility provider of Honduras, the National Electric Energy Company (Empresa Nacional de Energia Electrica, ENEE), announced scheduled electricity outages across parts of the country until at least Oct. 19 to carry out maintenance work. On Oct. 16, outages of up to eight hours are scheduled in parts of the Central District (Tegucigalpa), Choluteca, La Ceiba, San Pedro Sula, and several other locations in the country. Transport and business disruptions are likely in affected areas; businesses without backup generators could temporarily suspend operations. Mobile voice and internet service disruptions are possible. The electricity disruptions could also affect ATMs and fueling stations. The blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during power outages, especially during hours of darkness.
