Middle East: Flight disruptions likely to continue across various airports in Middle East through mid-Oct amid heightened tensions

Flight disruptions likely across Jordan, Israel, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon through at least mid-October amid rising tensions. Reconfirm flights.

Warning

Flight disruptions, including suspensions and cancellations, are likely through at least mid-October amid rising regional tensions. As of Oct. 4, international airlines continue to suspend operations to various airports regionwide, including across Jordan, Iran, Iraq, Israel, and Lebanon. The suspensions come in anticipation of a retaliatory Israeli military strike in retaliation for an Iranian missile attack against Israel on Oct. 1.

Previously, the European Union’s Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) published Conflict Zone Information Bulletins (CZIBs) recommending EU air operators not operate in the airspaces of Iran, Israel, and Lebanon at all flight levels. If the region escalates, similar warnings, recommendations, or closures will likely be issued by various Civil Aviation Authorities (CAA).

Below are listed airlines that have announced recent changes or suspensions of flights.

  • Etihad Airways (EY): Flight operations are suspended in Lebanon until at least Oct. 8 and in Israel until further notice.

  • Qatar Airways (QR): Flight operations suspended in Iraq, Iran, and Lebanon until further notice

  • Emirates Airlines (EK) and Flydubai (FZ): Flight operations are suspended in Israel until further notice. Flights operations suspended in Iran, Iraq, and Jordan until at least Oct. 5

  • Transavia (HV): Flights operations suspended in Jordan, Lebanon, and Israel until further notice

  • British Airways (BA): Flight operations are suspended in Israel until at least late October.

Airline officials may amend or issue new announcements at short notice, and additional airlines may announce similar measures in the coming days.

Confirm flight reservations if scheduled to travel via Jordan, Iran, Iraq, Israel, or Lebanon airports or airspaces. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Temporary airspace closures in the region, including Israel, Iraq, Iran, and Jordan, are likely to cause significant flight disruptions as airlines rapidly cancel, divert, or delay flights to avoid the area.

Consider avoiding nonessential travel until the situation stabilizes. Consider departing via commercial means while these services are available. Note that commercial flight options in the region may become increasingly limited. If travel is necessary and urgent, consider making alternative flight arrangements. Maintain contact with diplomatic representations.
