Spain: Anti-immigration protest to occur in Madrid evening of Oct. 25; counter-protests planned
Anti-immigration activists to march in central Madrid, Spain, during the evening Oct. 25. Counter-protest, heightened security likely.
Anti-immigration activists and counter-demonstrators plan to protest in central Madrid during the evening of Oct. 25. Activists associated with the Juventudes Falangistas de Espana organization plan to gather at Plaza del Callao at 20:00 before marching to Plaza de Isabel II. A counter-demonstration is planned at Plaza de Jacinto Benavente from 19:30. It was not immediately clear how many participants may attend the gatherings.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near both demonstrations. Confrontations between rival groups of demonstrators or protesters and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out and are particularly likely if either group attempts to confront the other.
Avoid the protest areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling in central Madrid. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
