The Bangladesh National Party (BNP) plans to hold commemorative rallies nationwide Nov. 7-17 to honor National Revolution and Solidary Day Nov. 7. The events will mark the 1975 uprising against a military coup and the BNP's founding anniversary. In Dhaka, BNP supporters will pay respects at the Mausoleum of Ziaur Rahman from 10:00 Nov. 7, and will gather at Shaheed Minar from 18:00 the same day. On Nov. 8, the party will assemble in front of the BNP headquarters in Dhaka's Nayapaltan area from 15:00; organizers have also called for rallies across divisional cities nationwide.
Additional events of varying types, including cultural programs, are likely through Nov. 17. Potential gathering locations include BNP offices, public squares, and prominent monuments. Up to a few hundred supporters may join each event; the highest participation is likely in Dhaka and other major cities.
Security personnel will likely monitor large gatherings. Activists may block or march on roadways, prompting localized traffic disruptions. While related gatherings will likely be peaceful, clashes between demonstrators and police may occur. Authorities may use force to disperse particularly disruptive rallies. Altercations between rival party members during or immediately after the events are possible.
Avoid any rallies as a precaution. Do not navigate roadblocks due to the threat of violence. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Allow additional travel time near known gathering sites. Plan for possible localized disruptions and allow additional travel time near demonstrations. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
