Activists from several political parties, labor unions, and civil society groups, including the Life Beyond Work (Vida Alem do Trabalho, VAT) movement, plan to demonstrate in several cities across Brazil on Nov. 15. The purpose of the action is to show support for a constitutional reform that would shorten the work week to a maximum of eight hours a day and 36 hours a week.

Organizers have announced the following times and locations for specific rallies:

  • Belo Horizonte: Praca Sete de Setembro, 09:00

  • Brasilia: Rodoviaria do Plano Piloto, 09:00

  • Florianopolis: Terminal de Integracao do Centro, 10:00

  • Fortaleza: Praca do Ferreira, 10:00

  • Manaus: Avenida Autaz Mirim, 09:00

  • Porto Alegre: Usina do Gasometro, 15:00

  • Rio de Janeiro: Camara Municipal, 10:00

  • Sao Paulo: Avenida Paulista and Brigadeiro, 09:00

  • Vitoria: Legislative Assembly of Espirito Santo, 14:00

Related gatherings are also likely elsewhere across the country. Participation will probably vary by location; however, demonstrations in some cities may draw thousands of participants. Heightened security and associated transport and business disruptions are likely near demonstration locations.

Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations near areas where rallies are slated to take place on Nov. 15. Heed the instructions of local authorities. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
