France: Taxi drivers protesting across Toulouse Nov. 5-6 /update 1

Taxi drivers plan go-slow vehicular protest marches through Toulouse, France, Nov. 5-6; road travel disruptions ongoing.

Warning

Unionized VTC taxi drivers plan to continue to their ongoing series of go-slow vehicular protest marches across Toulouse through Nov. 6. The purpose of the action, which began Nov. 5, is to denounce low fares and demand limitations to VTC permits. Previous similar protests have impacted areas near the Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS), Toulouse city center, and the Toulouse Matabiau railway station.

Authorities will likely deploy increased security to monitor the gatherings. Road travel and transport disruptions are likely across the city until the demonstrations end. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and local motorists cannot be ruled out.

Book alternative ground transport in advance, and follow local travel advice. Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Consider altering routes to avoid areas affected by protests. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
