France: Unionized rail workers plan nationwide strike 19:00 Nov. 20-08:00 Nov. 22

Unionized rail personnel plan to strike nationwide in France 19:00 Nov. 20-08:00 Nov. 22. Transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Unionized rail workers employed by the National French Railways Company (SNCF) plan to strike nationwide from 19:00 Nov. 20-08:00 Nov. 22. The CGT-Cheminots, UNSA-Ferroviaire, SUD-Rail, and the CFDT-Cheminots unions are planning the labor action to protest the planned transfer of freight rail service Fret-SNCF to two other companies from Jan. 1, 2025. Unions have also stated that they plan to strike indefinitely from Dec. 11.

Unless averted, rail transport disruptions are likely across France during the strike period. The industrial action will likely prompt increased congestion on services that do operate. Residual delays are possible in the hours following the end of the strike. Striking workers may form pickets at transport hubs; a heightened security presence is likely at any gatherings.

Consult updated train schedules when planning train travel across France Nov. 20-22. Expect short-notice delays and cancellations. Allow for increased congestion in stations and on services that do operate. Avoid possible demonstrations as a standard precaution.
