Authorities finish WWII bomb disposal operation in Cologne, Germany, Nov. 26. Heightened security, travel disruptions to gradually clear.

Authorities have announced the completion of an operation to dispose of an unexploded World War II bomb near Alfred-Schutte Street in Cologne on the afternoon of Nov. 26. Following the discovery of the unexploded World War II bomb earlier in the day, officials established a 300-meter (328-yard) cordon north, east, and south of the location of the device, as well as a 600-meter (656-yard) cordon west of the unexploded ordnance location. Officials evacuated around 260 residents within these areas. Railway travel on the South Bridge was suspended until the end of the bomb disposal operation. Road and river traffic were also restricted within the evacuation areas.

Heightened security and disruptions to road, rail, and river travel should gradually clear moving into the evening hours.

Allow additional time for travel through Cologne, particularly near the operation site, through the evening. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
