Authorities to conduct WWII bomb disposal operation in Essen, Germany, Nov. 7. Evacuations, localized disruptions likely.
Authorities plan to dispose of an unexploded Second World War bomb at Weberplatz in Essen City Center (Stadtkern) on Nov. 7. Authorities have established a 300 meters (328 yards) cordon within which all buildings will be evacuated and traffic restricted, including on Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse. Around 3,000 people are impacted by the evacuation order. The Limbecker Platz shopping center is also within the security cordon. Authorities have not indicated the duration of the disposal operation.
Heightened security is likely in the disposal operation area. Significant road travel and business disruptions are likely in the affected area through the afternoon of Nov. 7.
Consider taking alternate routes to reduce travel delays if traveling through Essen City Center Nov. 7. Allow additional time for travel near the operation site and via affected roadways. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
