Spain: Activists rallying in Villa de Vallecas District of Madrid late Nov. 26 /update 1

Activists rallying at Junta Municipal in Villa de Vallecas, Madrid, Spain, late Nov. 26; heightened security, transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Activists are rallying in the vicinity of the Junta Municipal in the Villa de Vallecas District of Madrid as of late Nov. 26. Demonstrators had gathered at the Assembly of Madrid on Avenida de Pablo Neruda from 19:30 before marching to Villa de Vallecas to denounce the police eviction of an activist group from an abandoned building in Villa de Vallecas earlier in the day. While protest organizers announced that the demonstration had ended at 21:48, footage appeared to show several hundred protest participants still at the scene.

Law enforcement officers will likely deploy near the Junta Municipal of Villa de Vallecas to monitor the gathering. Transport disruptions are likely in areas subject to protest activity and increased security. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest site. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
