Syria: Explosions from suspected airstrike reported in the Set Zaynab area of Damascus on Nov. 4
Suspected Israeli airstrike reported in Set Zaynab, Damascus, Syria, Nov. 4. Avoid the area.
Suspected Israeli airstrikes targeted the Set Zaynab area immediately south of Damascus Nov. 4. Israel has not commented on the alleged attack. There have been no immediate reports of casualties.
Emergency services personnel will likely deploy to impacted sites; transport disruptions are likely in affected areas. Military forces in Syria and northern Israel will almost certainly maintain a heightened security posture over the coming days. Further airstrikes, retaliatory attacks, and exchanges of cross-border fire are possible over the short term.
Avoid all military sites in Syria. Heed the instructions of local security forces. If airstrikes, artillery fire, or warning sirens are reported in the general vicinity, take cover in the nearest bomb shelter and remain there until further instructions are given by authorities. In light of the ongoing tensions consider avoiding nonessential travel to Syria, particularly the shared border region with Israel, until the situation stabilizes.
Tensions between Israel and Iran-aligned Syria remain extremely high. This is the latest in a string of recent cross-border acts of violence. Since 2017, the IDF has launched hundreds of preemptive strikes targeting suspected Hizballah and Iran-led fighters, weapons caches, and supply convoys in Syria.
