Thailand: Activists plan to protest in Bangkok Nov. 5 /update 1

Activists to protest at the Government House in Bangkok, Thailand, from 10:00 on Nov. 5. Tight security, transport disruptions likely.

Informational

Activists affiliated with the Students and People's Network for Thailand Reform (STR) group plan to protest in front of the Government House from 10:00 Nov. 5 to demand that the government take a stand on the Koh Kut island dispute between Thailand and Cambodia. Dozens to a few hundred people could join each event.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest site. Localized business disruptions are possible. Clashes between demonstrators and security personnel may occur, especially if activists attempt to bypass security barriers or defy police orders to disperse. Officials may arrest overly disruptive demonstrators.

Avoid the protest site as a precaution and to minimize travel delays. Allow additional time for journeys in the affected area. Heed all official security and transport advisories. If violence occurs nearby, immediately depart the area and seek shelter at a safe nongovernmental building. Do not attempt to cross roadblocks; plan alternative routes.
