Thailand: Flight disruptions and increased security at Chiang Mai International Airport Nov. 15-16, due to lantern festival
Several flights canceled or rescheduled at Chiang Mai International Airport, Thailand, Nov. 15-16. Reconfirm flights.
Several flights have been canceled or rescheduled at Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) from Nov. 15-16 due to the Yi Peng lantern festival. Additionally, there will be a heightened security presence and increased security measures at CNX during the festival. Approximately 74 flights have been canceled, and 96 others rescheduled to prevent possible damage to aircraft by the lanterns. Flights that had been scheduled after 19:00 on each day are mostly impacted.
Passenger processing delays are possible at CNX Nov. 15-16 due to increased security measures. Further flight disruptions could occur throughout the festival. Residual delays are possible Nov. 17 at CNX as airlines work to clear any passenger backlogs that have materialized.
If traveling via CNX on Nov. 15-16, reconfirm all flight reservations, and do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider arriving at the airport early to offset any check-in and security clearance delays over the affected time frame.
