Equipment and staffing issues prompt ground delay programs at airports in New York metropolitan area, US, Nov. 7; flight disruptions likely.
Flight disruptions, including delays and cancellations, will likely affect airports in the New York metropolitan area into at least early Nov. 8 due to equipment and staffing issues. As of around 18:00 Nov. 7, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had issued ground delay programs for the following airports in the region:
Teterboro Airport (TEB): Ground delay scheduled to remain in effect through at least 20:59 Nov. 7.
Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR): Ground delay scheduled to remain in effect through at least 00:59 Nov. 8.
Additionally, as of around 18:00 Nov. 7, flight departures to TEB were reportedly delayed by an average of 80 minutes and to EWR by an average of 119 minutes. The FAA may modify or rescind the abovementioned air traffic control programs on short notice.
The FAA may also issue additional ground delay programs and/or ground stops for airports in the New York metropolitan area, including John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and LaGuardia Airport (LGA), over the coming hours. Residual disruptions are possible through early Nov. 8 even after conditions improve as airlines work to clear passenger backlogs.
Confirm flight reservations if scheduled to travel via TEB, EWR, or other airports in the New York metropolitan area through at least early Nov. 8. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
