Austria: Activists plan to demonstrate in Vienna Dec. 19

Activists plan to protest on Wehrgasse in Vienna, Austria, from 18:00 Dec. 19. Heightened security, localized transport disruptions likely.

Informational

Anti-fascist activists plan to protest on Wehrgasse at the intersections with Gruengasse and Rechte Wienzeile in Vienna from 18:00 Dec. 19. The purpose of the protests is to denounce a lecture being given by Maximilian Krah, a German politician in the Alternative fur Deutschland (AfD) party. It was not immediately clear how many participants will attend.

Police will likely deploy in the area to facilitate the gatherings. The presence of demonstrators and law enforcement officers will likely disrupt vehicular transport nearby. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or opposed individuals cannot be ruled out. The demonstration may partially obstruct and exit from Kettenbrueckengasse Station; however, rail transport disruptions are unlikely.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest area. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
