Malaysia: Muslim rights activists plan to rally in Kuala Lumpur from 14:00 Jan. 3

Activists plan to protest at Masjid Jamek in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 14:00 Jan. 3. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.

Warning

The Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) plans to hold a rally at the Sultan Abdul Samad Jamek Mosque/Masjid Jamek in Kuala Lumpur from 14:00 Jan. 3. The action is to denounce recent events such as celebration of Christmas at a government office that PAS perceives as undermining of Muslim rights. Several hundred people may attend the event.

Authorities will likely deploy increased security to monitor the gathering. Traffic curbs and congestion will probably affect roads and public transport lines serving the protest site. While the event will likely pass peacefully, skirmishes between police and demonstrators cannot be ruled out. Security forces may arrest participants if they deem the event to be overly disruptive. Associated localized business disruptions are possible.

Avoid the protest as a precaution. If clashes break out, immediately depart the area for a secure, nongovernment building. Allow additional travel time in the affected area. Heed all official security and transport advisories.
