Syria: Multiple foreign governments reiterate or review advisories for travel to the country in early December

Various foreign governments have reissued or reiterated travel advisories for Syria in early December in response to the escalating conflict in the country. The US Department of State issued a security alert on Dec. 6 urging US citizens to depart while commercial options are available in Damascus. The UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office also reiterated its existing advisory on Dec. 5 against travel to Syria and that British nationals in the country should leave by any practical means. The French government issued a statement on Dec. 7 reiterating its position that its nationals in the country are strongly advised to leave. India's Ministry of External Affairs issued a travel advisory on Dec. 6 advising against travel to Syria and that those who can should leave by the earliest available commercial flights. The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Syria issued a statement on Dec. 5 recommending that Chinese nationals leave the country while commercial flights are still operating. Other governments have issued similar advisories in recent days and further updates and announcements are likely as the conflict progresses in the coming weeks.

Reconfirm road status if ground travel is unavoidable. Carry personal identification documents at all times. Conserve battery power on essential equipment, such as mobile phones.
