India: Political party activists to demonstrate across Tamil Nadu State Jan. 7
Political party to demonstrate at district headquarters across Tamil Nadu State, India, Jan. 7. Transport disruptions likely.
The state-ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party plans to demonstrate at district headquarters across Tamil Nadu State Jan. 7. Participants are denouncing Tamil Nadu Governor Ravindra Narayana Ravi's recent walkout during the inaugural session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly. Potential protest locations include political party offices, government buildings, public squares, monuments, and major thoroughfares. In Chennai, participants could gather at the State Secretariat, Gandhi Statue at Marina Walk, DMK party offices, and/or Raj Bhavan. Well-attended gatherings could draw dozens to a few hundred participants.
Authorities will likely monitor related gatherings and could use force to disperse overly unruly crowds. Localized transportation disruptions are probable. Isolated clashes between police and activists may occur. Demonstrators may hold street marches, prompting business disruptions.
Exercise caution near large demonstrations as a precaution. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Allow extra time for travel near government buildings in urban centers. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
