Hungary: Annual Budapest Pride march July 8
Budapest Pride march set for July 8; tightened security and traffic restrictions expected

The annual Budapest Pride march will take place on Saturday, July 8, starting at 15:00 (local time) in Kossuth Lajos Square (central Budapest), as part of the ongoing Budapest Pride Festival (June 30 - July 9). As the oldest LGBTQ event in Central and Eastern Europe, organizers are expecting large crowds; over 20,000 people marched in last year’s event. Although no incidents were reported in 2016, confrontations have occurred in the past. As such, security will be tightened. Furthermore, various traffic restrictions will be implemented:
- Several roads in central Budapest will be closed
- Bus services will be limited
- Both Tram 2 and the “nostalgia trams” will only run between Kozvagohid and Kossuth Lajos Square from 14:00 to 16:00
- M1 metro line will not be stopping at Heroes’ Square and Opera stations
- The 4-6 tram service will not stop at Octogon Station between 16:30 and 17:50
