France: Heatwave in central France, storms expected in the north July 6 /update 2

Powerful storms are expected in the northern departments of Aisne, Oise,  Ardennes, Marne, Seine-Maritime, Nord, Pas-de-Calais, and Somme on Thursday, July 6. The French meteorological agency (Météo France) has placed these eight departments under “Orange” warnings - the second-highest warning on a four-point scale, which are expected to remain in effect until at least 22:00 on July 6. Heavy rain, hail, strong winds (80-100 km/h [50-60 mph]) and lightning are forecast.

Transportation disruptions (rail, road) due to debris blocking roads or tracks are possible, along with potential flight disruptions. Localized power cuts and flooding may also occur.

Moreover, eight other departments - Ain, Allier, Isère, Jura, Loire, Puy-de-Dôme, Rhône and Saône-et-Loire -  have been placed under "Orange" warnings until Saturday, July 8, due to a strong heatwave hitting central-eastern regions in France. Temperatures between 34 and 36°C (93-97°F) are expected on Friday, July 7, and Saturday, July 8.

Advice

Individuals in affected areas are advised to keep abreast of weather forecasts and adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities. Individuals in areas affected by the heatwave are advised to avoid strenuous outdoor activity, to remain well-hydrated (with sugar-free, non-alcoholic beverages), to wear loose, light-colored clothing, and to remain indoors during the hottest part of the day (generally between 10:00 and 15:00). Do not hesitate to seek medical attention if displaying symptoms of heatstroke (headache, dizziness, muscle weakness, lack of sweating despite high heat, rapid heartbeat, etc.).
