Congo: Internet access cut off

Internet access cut off throughout the country since June 11 due to damaged undersea cable

Warning

Event

Access to the internet has been cut off since Sunday, June 11, throughout the country. The suspension is due to damage to a section of an undersea cable - maintained by the West Africa Cable System (Wacs) - reportedly damaged by a fishing vessel.

According to internet service providers, repairs could take from two to seven weeks.

Context

On a separate note, drinking water and fuel shortages have been reported on various occasions in recent months.

Advice

Individuals present in Congo are advised to monitor the situation and to avoid any associated protests due to the possibility of violence.
