France: Storms alerts for center and northeast August 1-2 /update 2
Storms to continue in central and northeastern France August 1-2; orange alerts extended to 23 departments
Event
Violent storms are forecast to continue in the northeastern and central departments of France. The national weather agency Météo France has prolonged “orange” alert warnings until early August 2 for the departments of Allier, Aube, Côte-d’Or, Marne, Haute-Marne, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Moselle, Nievre, Puy-du-Dome, and Yvonne, and extended such warnings to include the departments of Ain, Doubs, Jura, Loire, Haute-Loire, Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, Rhône, Saône-et-Loire, Vosges, and Territoire-de-Belfort. These alerts - the second-highest on a four-point scale - are currently set to remain in effect until Wednesday, August 2, at 06:00 (local time). Sudden heavy rain, hail, strong winds (up to 100km/h [60 mph]), and electric activity are expected, possibly causing transport disruptions as well as localized flooding.
Power cuts were reported on Tuesday morning in Limousin and Haute-Vienne; further outages are possible.
Meanwhile, orange alerts have been dropped for nine departments (Ardennes, Charente, Cher, Correze, Creuse, Dordogne, Indre, Loiret, and Haute-Vienne).
Advice
Individuals in affected areas are advised to keep abreast of weather forecasts and adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities.
