Jamaica: Police impose curfew in part of Spanish Town July 30-August 1

The Jamaican police have imposed a 48-hour curfew in Fraser's Content area of Spanish Town (St. Catherine parish), from 18:00 (local time) on Sunday, July 30, until 18:00 on Tuesday, August 1. The curfew is in effect for the area bounded by the intersection of Brivate road to Salkey Avenue. Individuals in this area are required to remain within their premises for the entirety of the curfew unless given express authorization.

According to authorities, the aim of the operation is to restore law and order in the area, which has been impacted by "extreme lawlessness," causing a strain on police resources.

Crime groups are prevalent and extremely active in Jamaica. Although most criminal activity targets local Jamaicans, foreign residents and travelers are also sometimes impacted by violence or other crime.
