Croatia: Flooding in Zadar County (Dalmatian coast) September 11

Heavy rains triggered flash floods in the Dalmatian coast region of Croatia on Monday, September 11, causing massive transportation disruptions. Flooding in Zadar reportedly knocked out electricity, internet, and water service. Flooding has also led to several regional road closures, including the DC8 Adriatic road at Sukošan, the ŽC6007 Zadar-Ražanac regional road between Poljica and Mazi, the ŽC6040 Sukošan-Sveti Martin-Zemunik, and the ŽC6004 Nin-Vrsi. Individuals present in Zadar and other areas affected by the severe rains are advised to keep abreast of weather alerts, confirm travel reservations, avoid coastal and mountainous areas (risk of flooding and landslides), and adhere to all advice issued by the local authorities.

Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult. Because floodwater may also contain wastewater or chemical products, wear boots and try to avoid any contact with the water. All items having come into contact with the water should be washed and disinfected, and all foodstuffs discarded.
