Belgium: Traffic congestion in Brussels area Oct. 6-12

Temporary closure of the Herrmann-Debroux viaduct; heavy road traffic congestion in southern Brussels October 6-12

Warning

Event

The Herrman-Debroux viaduct - one of the main entrance and exit points into Brussels from the southern region of Wallonia - has been closed due to structural issues and will remain closed until at least Thursday, October 12. As a result, heavy traffic congestion was reported over the weekend and is reportedly ongoing as of Monday, October 9. Road traffic is expected to be particularly bad on Tuesday, October 10, due to a general strike affecting all public transit services.

Advice

Individuals in Brussels are advised to anticipate heavy traffic congestion and reduced public transit services and to allow for extra time to reach their destinations.
