Dominican Republic: Flood and landslide risks Nov. 10 /update 1
Risk of flooding and/or landslides in much of the country as of Friday, November 10
Event
As of early Friday, November 10, alerts issued by the Dominican Republic’s Emergency Operations Center (COE) remain in place for much of the country due to the risk of flooding and landslides amid heavy rainfall. Yellow alerts - indicating a medium-level risk - are in place in the eastern provinces of La Altagracia and San Pedro de Macorís. Lower green alerts are in effect in 20 other provinces in the east, center, and south of the country.
The risk of flooding is particularly high along rivers, streams, and other bodies of water, in both urban and rural areas.
Advice
Individuals present in affected areas are advised to follow weather reports, be prepared for associated transportation disruptions, and adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
