Iran: Domestic flight crashes in central Iran, Feb. 18

Event

A passenger plane operated by Iranian carrier Aseman Airlines, flight number EP 3704, has crashed near the town of Semirom in central Isfahan province on Sunday, February 18. The plane disappeared from radar 50 minutes after takeoff from Tehran Mehrabad International Airport (THR). All 66 passengers are believed to have been killed. The flight was destined to land in Yasuj, in southwest Iran. According to local reports, heavy fog has delayed emergency response to the crash site.

Context

All aircraft operated by Iran Aseman Airlines have been refused permission to operate services to the EU due to concerns over operational safety and failure to meet European and international aviation standards.
