Congo: Heavy rain and flooding March 3-7
Heavy rain resulting in flooding and road damage since March 3 in parts of the country; transportation disruptions likely
Event
Significant flooding and infrastructure damage has been reported in parts of Congo since Saturday, March 3, due to recent heavy rains. Among the most affected areas - as of March 7 - is the town of Dolisie (south). In total, at least four people have been killed. Additional rain and related flooding is forecast for the coming days and months. Associated transportation disruptions are likely.

The rainy season in the south of the country runs from September to June. Additional rain is forecast in the coming months.
Advice
Individuals present in Dolisie and other affected areas are advised to follow any instructions as issued by local authorities (e.g. possible evacuation orders), allow for additional travel time, and follow local weather forecasts. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock an adult over.
On a separate note, while Congo remains relatively safe, certain Western governments advise against nonessential travel to Pool department as well as within 50 km (30 mi) of the Central African Republic border, where separatist groups and criminal organizations are active.
