Prime Minister Hun Sen has ordered police to reinforce security measures during the Lunar New Year celebrations taking place April 14-16. Authorities have also called on people to refrain from splashing water on each other, throwing bags of water on travelers, and painting charcoal or powder on other faces for the occasion. Meanwhile, the Phnom Penh City Bus Authority will offer free bus services to provinces April 12-18 during this busy travel period.

Millions of Cambodians typically travel from the capital Phnom Penh to their hometowns in various provinces to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

On a separate note, political tensions remain high in Cambodia. Political rallies or disputes could trigger violent protests. As a precautionary measure, individuals are advised to avoid all protests and demonstrations and to adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
