India: Goa state to launch app-based taxi service
Goa state government to launch app-based taxi service in key tourist areas
Event
The Goa government is set to launch an app-based taxi service in some key tourist destinations in the coastal state. On Monday, April 9, the state-run Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) invited taxi operators to register with the new service. The app-based taxis would operate at locations such as GTDC residencies (hotels), the Mormugao Port Trust Jetty (where cruise vessels anchor), airports, and the Saint Monica Jetty in Panaji. Taxi operators will be placed in an online queuing system.
Advice
On a separate note, individuals present in Goa should be aware that there have been a few serious incidents involving foreign nationals, including a number of sexual assaults that occurred between October 2017 and February 2018. Exercise caution and do not accept private rides from people you do not know well.
