Dominican Rep.: Flood and landslide alerts in place April 20

Alerts for possible flooding and landslides remain in place April 9 in seven provinces of the Dominican Republic; follow local weather reports

Warning

Event

The Dominican Republic’s Emergency Operations Center (COE) has issued alerts for possible flooding and landslides in 17 provinces, which remain in effect as of early Friday, April 20. Yellow alerts, the second-highest level, are in place for the central provinces of La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, San Cristóbal, Monte Plata, and Hato Mayor. Lower green alerts are in effect in much of the rest of the country.

According to the COE, flooding is possible in both rural and urban areas, notably along waterways.

Advice

Individuals present in affected areas are advised to follow weather reports and adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities. In the event of flooding, remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
